How To Clean A Wig ?

No matter you are a daily wearer or extended hair wear, the adhesive resides will gradually build up on your wig and get into your hair. In order to protect your hair wig, the regular clean-up is recommended.

Step 1: Removing the hairpiece tape

Gently remove the hairpiece tape starting from the edges of the wig.

Spray some adhesive remover first will make it easier for peeling off. Then, use your fingernail to scrap up the edge of the tape to start the peeling

Tips: Remove tape from lace areas will damage the wig.

Step 2: Soaking the wig

After removing the wig, wash your entire head, hair, and scalp thoroughly at least twice.

Soak the wig in a plastic or stainless steel container which is capable of holding a liquid solvent. The time of soaking depends on the type of wig and adhesive you’re using.

Step 3: Cleaning the wig

Remove the hair wig form the solution and lay it in a sink face up (the hair will be on the bottom).

To clean the lace areas gently brush the swollen adhesive reside with a fingernail brush to loosen and break it free.

To clean the skin areas use a teaspoon to scrap any excess residue off with gentle, short vertical strokes.

After getting most of the excess residue off, put the hair wig back into the container full of solvent for 2-4 more minutes.

Tip: Mirror slide is a very helpful tool for lace bases. Do not use it with poly/skin bases though, as the sliding can cause them to stretch.

Step 4: Rinsing the hair wig

Take the wig from the solvent and put it into the sink. Squirt a liberal amount of hand dishwashing liquid onto the base while it is still dripping wet with solvent. Any remaining adhesive residue will have lost all tack.

Slowly and carefully glide the fingernails brush across the edge of the base and out through the air. All the remaining adhesive residue should slide off easily. After a few minutes of brushing, rinse your system with high-pressure lukewarm water down through the base. Repeat this step a second time.

If there is still adhesive residue in the hair wig, you may not soak it in the solvent long enough. You need to repeat step 2.

Step 5: Shampoo and condition

After rinsing thoroughly wash the hair system wig, and make sure that there is no residue, this time using a mild shampoo to balance the acid level and lastly condition.

Now, your hair wig should be clean and clear of any adhesive residue. Wipe it with alcohol and you are now ready to reattach and begin to wear the fresh wig.
